STUFF!

Sofa! Bed! Dishes! TV!!! I have an apartment full of stuff!

The truck arrived today, a little late but not like in LA, and within an hour it was unloaded and on its way, and now begins the task of putting my apartment together. (Big thanks to Aliza and Josh for helping me carry everything!)

The living room is arranged pretty well and the cable guy is coming tomorrow. Elsewhere, my bed is assembled (but not made), my dishes are in the dishwasher, and I still don't have a clue where I'm going to be hanging most of my pictures. The place is starting to feel very cozy. Once I've unpacked more and it isn't full of empty boxes, I'll take some pics for everyone.

Oh, and happy birthday to Aliza! (Yes, she helped me move boxes on her birthday... am I a lucky guy or what?!?)

So, I spoke with the man with the '92 Subaru, and he says his brother is out of town. he says he's gonna get the keys - and drive it out to location maybe tomorrow! It's like a $10 taxi ride at least, one way, totheRamatGan Mall, where he is, though.

Another story:

I walk through the old, walled city of damascus, and see a lot of shuttered, abandoned houses, like I see out my own window here. One of them is bought, & becomes the Israeli embassy. But a lot I buy myself- pretty cheaply (believe me, I know the property values there, how much currency it takes to eat, and it's a "cheap" destination country. So I own a small office there, with three to five local employees, and I have a brother Israeli here, whos' Arabic and Hebrew are perfect- he'll talk to the filmcrews and tell the construction there exactly what we need. We refurbish then sell the houses. The city taxes are nothing.
I see myself walking down the streets, asking the neighbors "who was the last person of the last family to own there", "How long ago" and "What sort of families could you see living there?" Two years of renovation- tile the floors, new waterpipes, sattelite TV hookup--, not so very loud, at slow pace, could turn these demolished-looking street overhangs into the most luxurious, highest-price Wohnungs in the land. Sold at mortgage over fifteen years- to the young men and women who dream of being his Ministers. And they'll compete in Rausher housing.
Dr. Bashar al-Assad, president of the country for a time to come, dons his gas-mask.
