It's snowing today.
Seriously.
I haven't seen snow fall in years.
It's not actually heavy at all, nor is it sticking. It's basically a very light flurry, but come on... it's still October! I don't know if I can deal with this whole winter thing.
UPDATE: Now it's actually coming down... this is crazy.
I'm being thwarted in my attempts to celebrate Halloween. First of all, it's on a Monday night this year, which doesn't really matter to unemployed me, but does to most of my employed friends.
I therefore made an effort to throw a party this coming Saturday night. I invited pretty much everyone I know in the Boston area, but it seems that a whole lot of people will be out of town and the majority of the rest have other plans.
Right now it's looking like I'll do something Saturday night with a few friends - maybe go to Salem. But what makes this a real bummer is that I've almost finished putting together a kick-ass Halloween costume!
Something big and exciting may still work out; I'm not ready to throw in the towel just yet. And even going to Salem would be okay. I'm just frustrated that the party didn't come together better.
Today Harriet Meirs withrew her supreme court nomination.
Tomorrow, indictments are expected in the CIA leak.
And it's not even my birthday!
I pretty much gave up on the whole gym thing about a year ago. I'd been going regularly for 2 years but just lost the energy to keep lifting weights. I made a half-hearted effort to find a different exercize program but never came across anything that interested me.
That said, I signed up today for a membership at the local YMCA (sing it with me). The facility near me was built 3 or 4 years ago, so it's in really good condition. They also have a pool and some very exciting group classes (like Capoeira!). So hopefully I'll be able to get back into the habit of going regularly. It's not quite as convenient as my gym in LA that was a mile away and I could run to year-round, but it's close.
I've updated the photo section with a selection of pictures from the past few months. Enjoy.
Today was pretty chilly. It was a gorgeous day, but colder than it's been so far. On the plus side, however, I got to see John Edwards speak at Harvard's Kennedy School. He was on campus talking about poverty in America. It was a good speech. Good thing I don't have a job right now and was able to go see him at 3 in the afternoon.
I also passed my emissions inspection today, but that's less exciting.
Yes, I'm still alive.
Usually, after a long hiatus from posting, I'll talk about how busy I've been and list some of the many things that have precluded any posts. I'll then apologize profusely for being so lazy and promise to try harder from now on. So pretend that just happened and we can move on.
On a random note, was it Gwen or Ben who had the Mormons mail me a DVD about the redeeming power of Christ?
I lied. I will talk about what I've been doing. (No apologies, though.) First, there were the high holidays. I went to synagogue, ate, prayed, didn't eat, prayed some more, and then it was over. So Happy New Year, I forgive you all, etc.
My family came to visit last weekend. I hadn't seen them since... (when? December?) yeah, December (I think). We spent the weekend trying to stay out of the rain. I get to see them again in a month when I head to Atlanta for Thanksgiving. Now that I'm on the east coast, I hope to make family visits a bit more frequent.
I also got to briefly see Ari and Elana, who were in town for the weekend. Glad to have them back stateside and I hope to make it to Philadelphia to visit them sometime in the near future.
This week I've made a list of things I have to do, ranging from registering my car (done today) to buying Bonnie a wedding present (you get a year, right?). I've also been running other various errands. Nothing terribly exciting, but it's nice to be getting done with these things that have been piling up for a while.
I've also been meaning to update my photo section, so hopefully I'll do that in the next day or two.
On the job front, I'm waiting to hear from MA's newest State Senator about a staff position. She's currently in her transitional period, so hopefully in the next couple of weeks I'll have more information about that. I'm still keeping my eyes open for other opportunities, though.
And... that's it for now. I know there have been other things that I've been meaning to write about, so if I remember any of them, I'll try to jot them down this time. And if not, then you get to hear about how much laundry I get done tomorrow.
