I'm considering a trip to Philadelphia next weekend to visit some friends and I was looking at the different prices for transportation options. Here's my question:
If the train takes 4 hours longer than a plane and costs nearly the exact same price, why on earth would I take the train?
Comments
Because the train is pretty and more relaxing than driving, while the plane is terrifying and nauseating. At least, that's how it was in college, when I made that trip all the time.

Plus if you are going to take the train it probably takes just as long to drive and would be even cheaper to do that.
Planes are simpler in getting you to your destination.

Off the top of my head:
* You can use your cell phone during the entire train ride (not necessarily a plus for everyone...)
* It's a lot easier to take public transportation to the train station than to the airport (get off the T, take the escalator upstairs, you're there)
* You don't have to deal with the hassle of security (plus you don't have to get to the train station an hour early)
* The train isn't going to lose your luggage
* Some people are afraid to fly
* Um, I had one more, but I forgot.

Oh, and also, the train station in Philadelphia is much easier to get to than the airport. And you could get yourself up to the UPenn campus on the subway without even changing lines.

Yeah, but I just don't think any of those reasons justify an extra FOUR hours.
If I go I may just drive. It's probably a tank of gas each way which comes out to about half what the train/plane tickets would cost.

It's four more hours in actual transit, but if you add in all the extra time the airport takes, it's really not that different. If you do drive, you should ask Jeff for tips. I hear he's familiar with the route.
