Newt erritory

I don't know if I'll ever be able to forgive Newt Gingrich for his role in the Republican revolution of the early 90's. It was Newt who kicked off the right-wing playbook of shrill character assassination and personal attacks that have long since drowned out any hope of bipartisan discourse. I'd like to think that things were just a little more civil before that.

That being said, I kind of want to meet the man. Joe Klein's column in this week's Time shows Gingrich as a guy with some interesting ideas and a disdain for the direction his party has taken. Whether or not he acknowledges his own role in the creation of today's Republican party isn't clear, but it's a question I'd love to ask.

Outraged

Gas prices here are nearing $3/gallon. Meanwhile the CEO of ExxonMobil gets a retirement package worth $400 million.

For what miniscule bit of good it's going to do, I'm boycotting Exxon and Mobil gas stations for a while.

Yay! (ugh.)

Yesterday I took a day trip to NY to spend the afternoon hanging out with Jason and Danielle. It was great to be able to see them both and get to hang out in the city.

However, getting up early, driving, walking around in the cold rain, and then driving back to Boston seem to have taken their toll on me and I'm not feeling so hot right now. I'm kind of achy, which is never a good sign.

I'm working at the moment (we're doing a poll right now) but I'll be home in a couple of hours and hopefully I can get some rest tonight and feel better by tomorrow.

Graduated (aka flying solo)

Today I got to take a meeting all by myself. I drove out to western Massachusetts to meet with a candidate for state rep and pitched him our services. Usually I go to these meetings with my boss and he does most of the talking, but today he had other work to attend to.

I think the meeting went really well. We're going to put together a proposal for the candidate and hopefully get to do some work for his campaign soon. So today was a good day.

Of course

April is here, so it's snowing.

At least it hasn't been sticking.

Previously on Quantum Leap...

Last weekend I went to Atlanta for my dad's 60th birthday. The trip was great. It was very good to spend time with my family and I enjoyed showing Aliza around Atlanta. I also enjoyed eating at Fellini's, Chick-Fil-A, and the Golden Buddha.

Since getting back, I've been swamped by work. My boss and I had a lot of meetings last week with clients and potential clients. This weekend my boss was out of town meeting with one of our out-of-state clients and I've been handling some proposals and other work here.

I've also been enjoying the last days of Aliza's spring break. Unfortunately she has to go back to teaching tomorrow so I'll have to pay attention to my job during the day. I might get around to posting more regularly, too. We'll see.
